My Fiction

My unpublished (but hopeful) novels are for Christian women who enjoy a bit of suspense (other readers welcome too!!).

In the mean time, I have a couple non-suspense short stories you might like to read for free:

→Have you ever felt frazzled at Christmas time? Dare I say resentful? Yes, it’s a wonderful time to see family and friends, but is it too much to ask for a bit of you-time? Check out my story, “Too Much to Ask?” which was part of the 2009 Christmas Fiction Carnival hosted by Dee Stewart.

→In the “and now for something completely different” category, my short story, “Quite the Character,” was included in MindFlights‘ first print issue for 2008.

An intro to “Quite the Character”:

Writing is a great job — you can stay in your pajamas all day and play with your imaginary friends. When science fiction author Robert J. Hawke (Bobby) takes his laptop to the local Starbucks, he’s not prepared to meet an impossibly familiar man who claims to be his novel’s hero, Jett Travers.

How could Travers know about Bobby, let alone step out of a manuscript draft to ask for help? And what trouble could he be in without Bobby’s knowledge? When Travers reveals that a minor character is hijacking the plot, Bobby is sorely tempted to let her finish the novel with a bang.

You can read “Quite the Character” here.

  1. Ah, love the concept of staying in pajamas with our ‘imaginary friends’ who are so much more reasonable than most folks. The internet has become both our liberator and captor, has it not? We tap along, our best and brightest thoughts, to one another like captives in dark, dank cells, cold hands on cold keys trying to warm our lives feeding off each other’s perceptions.
But hey, who’s complaining? We get to write the ending, after all. :)

    • Hi Barbara, thanks for stopping by! Yes, internet sure has changed things. I’m thankful to be connected with writers across the country (and in others) and for the encouragement we can share. Now that I’ve moved out of an office basement into warmth and light I feel much less captive….

Love being able to write the ending! Have a great day.

  2. God blesses some of use with the ability to design and fix complex equipment. God blesses others with the ability to diagnose illnesses or interpret the constitiution. And then there are those of us who have been given a vivid imagination with endless possibilites. Keep Writing!
